Programs: Show Program & Rider Development Program

Wendy, Missy and Currie pride themselves on bringing something different but equally valuable to their clients. They see that each rider, whether involved in the Show Program or Rider Development Program, gets personal attention and a diverse education, allowing each client to progresses at his or her own pace.

Confidence building is a big part of their shared philosophy.  And that riding ultimately should be fun. “Nobody gets up in the morning to come out here and have a bad day,” Wendy says. “We watch our students and first tell them everything that they are doing well. From there, we point out what parts can be made better. Psychologically, it seems to be working pretty well.”

In addition, Fremont Hills’ programs are augmented by the wonderful set-up at the Portola Valley Training Center, where a huge outdoor ring, which boasts excellent footing, is one of eight riding arenas. A 5/8ths-of-a-mile exercise track and many miles of trails enable beneficial breaks to in-the-ring schooling. A treadmill, which can be set to various speeds and tilt levels, is also used as a great supplement or substitute for hand walking and lunging. The fitness-building benefits are numerous for healthy horses as well as those coming back from injuries.

Rider Development Program
The Rider Development Program (RDP) at Fremont Hills provides quality instruction that focuses on the skills of riding in a safe, fun, professional environment.  The team works with riders new to horses as well as those just getting back into the sport.  Riders don’t have to own their own horse to join this program.

More than a lesson program, the RDP focuses on horsemanship skills to provide each and every rider with a comprehensive grasp of the sport’s basics – from proper horse care to show ring performance.  Although not a requirement, RDP clients can own their own horse and compete at local shows. Those seeking to go on the road to compete on the ‘A’ circuit can always join the Show Program.
